Blog Hopping

Monday, October 30th, 2006

A multitude of exciting topics and issues will be examined and debated in the next few days. No doubt, you and your ISPE colleagues will need a place to express thoughts and observations about what was seen and heard. Yes, that place could be the lobby bar, but it can also be right here, at ISPE’s Annual Meeting blog.

To get this blog rolling, ISPE Technical Writer Rochelle Runas and ISPE PR Manager Marsha Strickhouser will be hopping in and out of educational sessions and social events. Both will capture highlights and report them here daily. They’ll plant the seeds for discussion and you can water those seeds with your genius thoughts.

As incentive, for every comment you contribute to this site, Rochelle and Marsha will buy you a pint of Guinness, or Bud, or a cup of Sake, depending on what part of the world you’re from . . . JUST KIDDING.  Isn’t it reward enough knowing that by contributing to this site, you made the Annual Meeting a richer experience for everyone here and for those who couldn’t make it?!?

Please blog responsibly!

Get Together at Annual Meeting

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Do you know how many of your fellow Affiliate or Chapter Members are attending the 2006 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, this November? We do, and you can, too. ISPE will have a computer kiosk at the 2006 Annual Meeting to help you locate your fellow colleagues and local Affiliate and Chapter Members who are also attending Annual Meeting. Located on the Disney’s Dolphin Resort Lobby Level at the Registration area, you can look up your colleagues in two easy steps:

1) Select the Affiliate or Chapter; 2) Select the group (Board, Delegate or Upcoming Events)

Coming together is that simple! When you’re at home, take advantage of ISPE resources on a local level through our Affiliates and Chapters. Our Affiliates and Chapters offer educational and networking opportunities to interact with fellow pharmaceutical manufacturing industry professionals, attend events, and make a difference right in your own neighborhood.

ISPE Affiliates and Chapters vary in size, number, and nature of activities, but all of them promote and support educational programs designed to enhance professional performance, foster and encourage favorable relations between Members and related professionals, and collect and disseminate information on a regular basis. If you’re not yet a Member of an ISPE Affiliate or Chapter, you’re missing out. For more information, go to www.ispe.org/chapters or to join today, go to www.ispe.org/join.

Looking Forward to November!

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Editor’s note: Jane R. Brown will be named next month as Chairman of the Board for 2006-07 at the ISPE 2006 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, USA. As Manager of GMP Compliance for Research and Development at GlaxoSmithKline, she first joined ISPE in 1993 and has been active in the Carolina/South Atlantic Chapter. She has been on ISPE’s University Relations Committee, Strategic Plan Task Team, and Executive Council, among others. She has founded four student chapters at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina, Duke and Campbell universities, and assisted in forming three additional student chapters at Clemson, James Madison and North Carolina A&T universities.

As I prepare for this “best ever” ISPE Annual Meeting, I can still remember the first ISPE Annual Meeting I ever attended. It was in San Diego in 1996. I went because Connie Muia (Director of Affiliates and Chapter Relations, who retired earlier this year) asked me to do a workshop for people interested in starting a student chapter.

I went there not really knowing anybody. I basically went there alone. However, I ended up meeting so many people. There was such a feeling of warmth and everyone was so friendly.

If this is the first time you will be attending and ISPE Annual Meeting, I want you to know you will feel right at home with your new ISPE colleagues. That friendliness is in addition to having wonderful programming and sessions filled with leaders from the industry, academia and regulatory agencies.

It was what got me hooked.

I left that meeting and I’ve never missed one since.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you in November.
- Jane R. Brown

Suppliers Galore!

Monday, October 16th, 2006

What’s better than three iPod Nanos?

Maybe a 42-inch plasma television valued at $2,500?

How about 270 suppliers? That’s the largest ever table-top exhibition at an ISPE Annual Meeting.

All of these will be “available” at the 2006 ISPE Annual Meeting when the exhibit hall at the Walt Disney World Dolphin is packed with the latest leading-edge technologies and innovative solutions for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. This is the most we have ever had and we’re very excited!

Four attendees can win the 42-inch plasma TV and three iPod Nanos, which will be raffled Tuesday, 7 November.

The exhibit hall will be a hub of activity with suppliers; the plasma TV and iPods on display; along with the Cyber Café; PPD Posters; the blog station; the FOYA display; ISPE perpetual awards display, and much more.

See you there!
